The Main Industry

Mining was the main industry that supported Pioche. With the price of silver and gold hitting new highs, old mines started producing ore again and again. However, no mines are working today. Mines that have made history for Pioche have illustrious names such as: Ely Valley Mines, Bristol, Prince Mines, Pioche Number One, Combined Metals, Pan American Mines, Comet, Pacific Tunnel, Boston Pioche, Pioche-Salt Lake, Poor Man, Wide Awake, Consolidated Mines, Menda, Atlanta Gold Mines and many others.

Pioche had five railroads that passed through town and were used to haul ore and people. One of the train engines which was used to haul ore from the Jack Rabbit Mine to the mill still can be seen standing proud next to the new courthouse and ballpark.
