Pioche Today

Our Mt. View Hotel, built in the 1800s. President Herbert
Hoover stayed here before, during and after his presidency. Hoover was a mining
engineer and owned part of a mine 4 miles behind the hotel in Castleton, NV.
When he came to visit and his miner's homes were full, he had no other place to
stay but at the Mt. View Hotel. Some people in Pioche are still alive who met
President Hoover when he had a box lunch for visitors on the porch of the Mt.
View. Some worked with him at the mine also.

View from The Mountain View Hotel overlooking Pioche and the Meadow Valley ~ Utah is in the distance (about 30 miles east).

Pioche wouldn't be Pioche without Ted Daskas ~ you'll see him everywhere. Don't let the truck fool you. He drives a different car or truck every day. He and Cowboy George came to Pioche at the same time 30 years ago. It's their home!!!

The Gem Theatre, Main Street, Pioche, NV. It's the only movie theatre in Lincoln County and the show starts at 8 p.m. sharp, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. You can smell the popcorn on those nights a block away.
