Just a Few of our Horses

and Ponies

Most of these photos were taken December 2, 1999

Cowboy George with one of his favorite stud paints, Cochise.

Here's Cowboy George with Cochise and a few of his women.

cg-pretty.jpg (45501 bytes)

Black Beauty, the Morgan, Cowboy George, Ava in the background,  Cochise to the right of Cowboy George and "Pretty-Pretty" Pocahantas up front with her beautiful blue eyes ~ prettiest horse I ever saw. She's so graceful and smart and she can jump a six-foot fence with the grace of a prima ballerina. Well, so can Cochise when he decides to visit any of his women when they're in the corrals. He just jumps from one corral to another any time he wants to. They stoop on their two hind legs with fore-legs folded, hoofs to their  shoulders up in the air, clear the fence like there's nothing to it and land without a noise or a shake of the ground if you're standing by. You can't hear anything or feel any thump. So graceful!

Elizabeth and her new baby who sticks right by her side ~ one of Cochise's many families. Turk was born Thanksgiving week, less than a month ago. He was a week old in this photo. Look at his long legs. He's going to be a big one, just like Daddy Cochise.

Here's Elizabeth and baby out for a run in the pasture. There's another herd of our horses way in the background in another pasture. They're the families of Geronimo, another favorite stud paint horse like Cochise.

cg-ponies.jpg (56361 bytes)

Here are a few of the ponies in the pasture, and a couple in the truck who had been on a Las Vegas job, transported from one local ranch to another in the watering truck to join their buddies.

doc.jpg (59237 bytes)

Doc Holiday jumping out of the truck. All horses and ponies are trained to jump in or out of any truck or trailer. If you've seen many of the issues of our "Ghost Town Gazette" History Newspaper, you might remember seeing Doc Holiday in my arms, she was named so as she was born last year on Memorial Day. She was such a tiny thing, now so big and fat.

brnpony.jpg (50917 bytes)

Here's Fifty/Fifty and Brown Pony with her baby, Rusty.

                                                                                                                                                               brponbab.jpg (69589 bytes)

A closeup of Rusty. He usually runs away and hides behind Mama, but when I asked him to look my way because I wanted to take his picture, he turned around and looked at the camera  and didn't flinch an eyelash for the pic.

blacks.jpg (63356 bytes)

These are the black ponies at the Pioche Ranch, Ebony and Midnight. They stood still for me to take their picture, too, when I said "hold it right there."

casper.jpg (62473 bytes)

Casper, a pony version of Cochise who also has his own harem with Cowboy George, and the donkeys, Jack and Burrito in the background.

jack.jpg (62349 bytes)

And here's MY (Lorraine here) favorite, Jack with Burrito behind him. Jack is like a big dog, sticks his head in your car, honks the horn, carries things all over the ranch, like water hoses and more. He's just so cute with his puffy cheeks and great personality. He gets behind me and rests his head on my shoulder when I'm working around the ranch. He's so smart, too. And when I can't find him and call his name, he comes running really fast from out of nowhere. Well, he's my favorite large animal and Sergio is my favorite small one.

sergio.jpg (53444 bytes)

Speaking of Sergio....his proper name is Sergio Bovine! Did you see the movie, "Babe?" Well, this is my "Babe!" He doesn't talk with his voice very often, he talks with his eyes, has a very dainty walk, like he's walking on high-heels, gentle and loving ~ just like one of the family. Oh, and I believe, as tiny as he is, he's going to be a daddy very soon!!! Yeah, Porkchop is now three times his size and growing. Nancy looks a bit big, too, so he might have two families soon!

There are lots and lots more horses and ponies. Some are in Las Vegas, so when I visit them again, I'll catch them all on the camera for you, especially Trigger, Cowboy George's long-time favorite stud pony who is King of the ponies, as Cochise is Kingpin of the horses. Through the years, thousands of kids in Las Vegas know Trigger ~ they're always asking about them. Some are now in their 20s and come up to us during pony events and tell us Trigger was at their birthday parties, 10 and 15 years ago!!!

Visit us again and we'll have many more pictures for you to look at! Each and every pony and horse have their own personalities, habits, and unique little things they do, just like a cat or dog that you raise from birth. Cowboy George shows no favoritism to any one of them, even though he might love Cochise and Trigger the most. He talks with all of them every day. They hear the truck and come running, not only to be fed, but to see their Lord and Master. He visits each pasture once or twice a day and takes time to love them all equally.

After I take pictures of all the horses and ponies for you, I'll also get the dogs, goat, chickens, rooster, other pot-bellies, rabbit and the kitten.

Here's a new one, taken March 3rd. Hazel, our red healer, gave birth to four pups. They're a week old in this pic.

Proud mama, Hazel with four puppies. Taken on trip to Las Vegas. Daddy, Prince the white healer, didn't come on this trip.

Close-up of two of the pups, one male, one female, as they snooze after feeding.
